The groundbreaking on a forthcoming Las Vegas stadium is expected to take place in November, and will mark a milestone for the Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders continue to push toward the beginning of the construction period, and have been working with local officials throughout much of this year on some key aspects of the plan. A major milestone for the project is slated for November, when a ceremonial groundbreaking is expected to take place.
According to a report, the groundbreaking for the new Las Vegas stadium will take place on November 13. More from The Las Vegas Review-Journal:
Board member Tommy White, business manager and secretary-treasurer of Laborers Union Local 872, said the team is planning an event for Nov. 13.
“We’re looking forward to start handing out our hard hats and getting people out to work,” White said in a telephone interview late Thursday.
The Raiders were playing a Thursday night game with the Kansas City Chiefs in Oakland, and team representatives did not return phone calls requesting verification of the date.
White said he received an email confirmation of the event.
According to the Review-Journal, the Raiders cannot begin construction until they have development agreements in place with Clark County and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority. However, the team can plan to “conduct pre-construction work and the authority is expected to consider an enabling work agreement at the Nov. 9 meeting that would spell out what contractors would be permitted to do and to place all liability on the Raiders.” The Raiders had their relocation request approved by the NFL in March.
