Construction of a new Las Vegas stadium for the Oakland Raiders will be completed in 30 months, according to a preliminary timeline on the project.
Both the Raiders and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority are working out the road map to completing the stadium, which is slated to open for the 2020 NFL season. The latest timeline provides some details as to how the project could take shape. The stadium site–which was recently purchased by the Raiders–will be transferred to the authority in November, allowing site work to begin in December. January 2018 will mark the beginning of the construction process, which is set to be completed by June 2020.
If the proposed timeline becomes reality, the Raiders would have months to prepare for their first home pre-season games and the beginning of the regular season. Beginning construction by January, however, will require the completion of several tasks over the next few months. More from The Las Vegas Review-Journal:
Among the key approvals in the early stages of the timeline is Clark County’s High-Impact Project review, which is slated for completion by August.
That review includes intense studies by several county departments regarding transportation, ingress and egress, parking, drainage, utilities, airport impact and the availability of emergency services. Clark County officials are expected to make a presentation at Thursday’s meeting.
Also scheduled for completion by August is a project review by the Nevada Department of Transportation. NDOT Director Rudy Malfabon on Monday told the NDOT Transportation board there are no immediate plans to accelerate freeway existing construction projects since they were already scheduled to coincide with the stadium’s opening date.
The Stadium Authority also has scheduled a special meeting for May 22. Authority officials say that session will address the authority’s 2017-18 fiscal year budget and is routine for government entities.
Should officials opt to follow this timeline, the authority will have to approve all project-related documents by October. The timeline will likely considered at a Las Vegas Stadium Authority board meeting on Thursday.
