LaVell Edwards Stadium Upgrades Unveiled by BYU

LaVell Edwards Stadium 2018

BYU football fans will enjoy better WiFi and other amenities as part of 2018 LaVell Edwards Stadium upgrades announced by the university, enhancing the game-day experience.

In 2017, BYU Athletics partnered with Extreme Network and Verizon Wireless to begin installing a state-of-the art, large-venue Wi-Fi system in LaVell Edwards Stadium. In doing so, BYU is one of the first college venues to implement a Wi-Fi offload solution used in many NFL stadiums. The university also partnered with Verizon Wireless to install a high-performance distributed antenna system (DAS) that improves the overall productivity of cellular phone coverage in Edwards Stadium.

The combination of the DAS and the Wi-Fi system will provide BYU fans and vendors the ultimate large-venue mobile connectivity at events in Edwards Stadium beginning with the season opener versus the Cal Bears on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Game-Day App
With state-of-the-art mobile connectivity in place, BYU is launching a new game-day mobile app, built specifically for Edwards Stadium. The feature-rich application was developed by Pesci Sports and will provide Cougar fans in Edwards Stadium a second-screen experience during games that includes real-time statistics, on-demand highlight videos, social media components, the radio broadcast and much more. The app will be available to download before the first game on both iPhone and Android phones.

Mobile Ticketing and Point of Sale
The new Wi-Fi system will also allow BYU to implement mobile ticketing and a mobile point of sale (POS) system for its vendors. These options provide convenience and security to both fans and vendors.

Social Media Ribbon Board
Also new to Edwards Stadium in 2018 is a state-the-art social media ribbon board. Located above the east stands (and shown in the above photo), the ribbon board is 8 feet high by 282 feet wide and is a much bigger version of the social media boards in the Marriott Center and South Field. The new board will allow fans to interact with each other and BYU Athletics throughout the game.

Clear Bag Policy
Finally, beginning this season, BYU has adopted the NFL’s clear bag policy for all home games at LaVell Edwards Stadium. This will include the following changes: Approved bags must be made of clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and should not exceed 12 x 6 x 12 inches. Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap, can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bags. Season ticket holders will receive a BYU-branded clear bag with their season tickets.

Bags that are prohibited include backpacks, cinch bags, diaper bags, fanny packs, purses and tote bags. An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.
