The Kansas City Chiefs have announced several Arrowhead Stadium upgrades for 2019, highlighted by an improved video display and new upper-level seats.
Over the coming NFL offseason, the Chiefs will work to complete a number of improvements to Arrowhead Stadium. The video display over the stadium’s west end zone will keep its size and shape, but receive new LED panels in order to improve the picture quality.
Along with that the change, the Chiefs are planning to do work in Arrowhead Stadium’s upper deck. A re-application of waterproofing measures will take place in the upper level, with existing seats to be removed and replaced with new seating that is equipped with cup holders. The upgrades are estimated to cost in excess of $10 million, and be completed in time for the 2019 season. More from the Kansas City Star:
Jim Rowland, the executive director of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority, said the cost of the updates will be more than $10 million. The Chiefs are paying for the work, Rowland said, but in the future can request to be reimbursed by the sports authority.
The scoreboard on the west end zone will remain the same size and shape, the Chiefs said, but will have new LED panels that are expected to enhance the clarity.
In the upper deck, the new seats also will have cup holders for the first time.
Work on the stadium could begin next week, according to the Chiefs.
The Arrowhead Stadium upgrades were announced by the Chiefs on Monday. “It has been a decade since our last major renovation to Arrowhead Stadium was completed and we’ve been taking an extensive look at areas we can address as we move towards future seasons,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said in a story on the team’s website. “We are excited about these projects and look forward to the work beginning in the coming days and weeks.”
Arrowhead Stadium is not the only NFL facility that is slated to undergo upgrades this offseason. Among some of the more notable projects are the Baltimore Ravens’ next phase of a major renovation of M&T Bank Stadium that includes club and suite level improvements, and the Minnesota Vikings’ plans to swap out the turf at U.S. Bank Stadium
