The Dallas Cowboys‘ Ford Center at The Star is not only a highly-anticipated venue around the NFL, but within high school football circles as well.
Located in Frisco, the Ford Center at The Star is the new headquarters and training center for the Cowboys, which includes adjacent commercial development. As was noted in a preview by our own Jarah Wright, the Cowboys partnered on the project with the Frisco Independent School District (FISD), an entity that became involved in the proposal, in part, to secure a venue for high school football programs.
Starting this fall, the FISD’s football teams will be playing out of a 12,000-seat stadium on the complex. Those games are already selling out, and are highly anticipated in the area. More from USA Today High School Sports:
Add to a sellout to the list. Actually a back-to-back sellout to be specific. There are two sessions and the morning and afternoon have each sold out.
Already, the second game of the Frisco’ ISD’s football quadrupleheader will be nationally televised to showcase the first-of-its kind indoor high school football stadium and the pageantry of Texas high school football.
With football practices starting practice starting this week before the season-openers in three weeks, Frisco ISD athletic director David Kuykendall said the games already are sold out.
Four games, with all eight Frisco ISD high schools, will be played in a morning and afternoon sessions of doubleheaders. The first game will be played at 9 a.m. CT on Aug. 27 (Saturday) between Independence and Reedy. The second game between Lone Star and Heritage will be at 12:30 with a national, live broadcast by ESPN. The second session has Wakeland and Liberty at 5:30 and the school district’s two oldest schools, Frisco and Centennial, in the finale.
As part of the partnership, FISD also has access to the facility for other purposes, such as a display area for student art work and band practice space. Some of the other amenities that either already are or will eventually be a part of the complex include an Omni hotel, The Cowboys Club at The Star, and a sports medicine center.
