Mountain West Adds New Los Angeles Bowl

A new Mountain West Los Angeles bowl has been added to the conference postseason lineup beginning in 2020, as the new home of the NFL’s Chargers and Rams will host the league champion.

The as-yet-unnamed bowl game will feature the Mountain West Conference champion against a Pac-12 game. The new Mountain West Los Angeles bowl is part of a new conference lineup that includes up to nine potential bowl games, running between 2020 and 2025.

The Mountain West conference is guaranteed appearances in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Boise, ID), New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque, NM), NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl (Tucson, AZ), SoFi Hawai’i Bowl (Honolulu) and an ESPN Events-operated bowl game, likely to be held in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex.

The Mountain West has also partnered with the Cheez-It Bowl (Phoenix) and another bowl, expected to be announced in the near future. The Mountain West will provide a representative to one of these events if their primary partners are unable to fill one of the slots.

“We’re very pleased with our bowl lineup for the next cycle,” Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson said. “We feel we have an exceptional group of bowl partners. We’re adding a game at the new, state-of-the-art stadium in Los Angeles, which is very exciting. Plus, we’ll be in some familiar locations with many long-time bowl partners. These partnerships are going to provide the Mountain West with attractive bowl destinations, exciting matchups and an improved financial situation for our members.”
