The site of a new Las Vegas stadium for the Oakland Raiders accommodates fewer parking spaces than what is needed for certification, according to a new study.
Conducted by Kimley-Horn and Associates, the study looked at where the stadium site that has been purchased by the team stands in regards to meeting a Clark County requirement for certification. The requirement calls for a quarter-space per attendees which, in the case of the Raiders, means that the proposed 65,000-seat stadium would need 16,250 parking spaces. According to the study, however, the site will only have room for 2,400 spaces.
Obtaining the certificate is necessary for beginning construction, making it a priority as the Raiders and local officials look to wrap up the necessary details before building the stadium. The study suggests that satellite lots could be used, but specific locations will likely be detailed at a later time. More from the Las Vegas Review-Journal:
An off-site parking plan will need to be approved by Clark County before the stadium receives a certificate of occupancy.
Those will need to be off-site, the study states, but locations have yet to be specified.
“The Raiders are going to have to do a lot of negotiating with nearby landowners to purchase land where we can put satellite lots to shuttle people in here,” County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak said.
A recently-released timeline calls for construction of the stadium to begin in January, starting a 30-month process that allow the stadium to be ready by June 2020. The Raiders recently had their lease for the stadium approved by NFL owners.
