Raiders Return to the Coliseum for 2019 Reportedly Discussed

O.Co Coliseum, Oracle Arena

With their home venue for 2019 still unsettled, the Oakland Raiders have reportedly entered into negotiations to return to Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

The Raiders are still planning to move into their new Las Vegas stadium when it is completed in 2020, but their home facility for this coming season remains unsettled. Their lease agreement for the Coliseum expired after the 2018 season, and a lawsuit filed in December by the City of Oakland against the team and the NFL seemingly clouded the possibility of the Raiders playing the 2019 campaign at the Coliseum.

Alternate venue options have been linked to the team in recent weeks, but the Raiders return to the Coliseum for 2019 could still be an option. A report Friday said the team is in negotiations with Coliseum officials. More from ABC7 News:

Sources tell ABC7 News that the team is now in negotiations with Coliseum officials to play in Oakland next season.

The talks began this week, and are the first the two sides have had since the City of Oakland filed an anti-trust lawsuit against the Raiders and the NFL in December.

Over the last few weeks, the focus surrounding the Raiders has been on what other options could be in play for next season. San Francisco’s Oracle Park, home of MLB’s Giants, was widely reported as a potential landing spot, but a number of questions surround the viability of that arrangement. At the very least, a return to the Coliseum would allow the Raiders to spend next season in a familiar environment and remain in Oakland until they can fully move to Las Vegas. Until the club comes out and announces it plans, however, it remains to be seen how the issue will be resolved.
