As part of an ongoing study, fans are being surveyed on potential Buffalo Bills’ Stadium options–including a new or renovated facility.
In November, Bills owner Pegula Sports & Entertainment (PSE) announced that CAA Icon will conduct a study on the team’s stadium options. The team is currently playing at the aging New Era Field, and the study will explore the potential for a renovation or replacement of the facility.
With the study underway, fans are being asked to provide their viewpoints in an online survey that is delivered via email. Through the survey, fans can offer insight on a variety of issues, including whether they support a new or renovated stadium, what amenities they would like to see incorporated into a facility, and more. “As we said when we announced our study in November, we are actively pursuing feedback from our fans,” Pegula Sports and Entertainment said in a statement about the survey. “We are currently conducting a survey to gain the insight of a wide cross section of fans.”
The Bills-specific survey asks questions regarding fans’ interest in professional and college sports, how often they buy tickets, their preferences for types of seating, interest in various stadium amenities, tailgating habits, tolerance for different price points in either a new or renovated stadium, and willingness to pay more for premium amenities.
It also asks whether the survey taker believes the Buffalo market would support either a new or renovated Bills stadium, and whether the survey taker would personally support a new stadium or renovated New Era Field. And it asks whether the survey taker would be willing to pay more for tickets at a new stadium rather than a renovated stadium.
The survey floats multiple pricing options for lower-level and upper-level seats and asks survey takers how likely they would be to buy season tickets at that price point. There were also questions about the willingness to purchase a personal seat license, or PSL, that would give the buyer rights for up to seven years to purchase season tickets for a particular seat or set of seats.
New Era Field originally opened in 1973. Although it has had renovations in recent years, including some upgrades completed prior to the 2018 season, it is still considered out of date by modern NFL standards. As of the 2018 season it was the sixth-oldest stadium in the NFL, but it will move up in the coming years. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum–the NFL’s oldest venue–will lose the Rams as a tenant when a new Inglewood stadium opens in 2020. It is also uncertain whether the Oakland Raiders will return to Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, the NFL’s fourth-oldest facility as of the 2018, in 2019 while they await the opening of a new Las Vegas stadium in 2020.
