Boise State Exploring Albertsons Stadium Renovation

Albertsons Stadium

Boise State is in the process of exploring a potential Albertsons Stadium renovation, focusing on possible improvements to the facility’s east side.

The upgrades being mulled by Boise State would bring some improvements to the fan features on the lower portion of the east side of the stadium. A widened concourse would be part of that plan, along with new and improved concession and restroom facilities, and a new premium seating area.

Recently the university tabbed a local firm to deliver a cost estimate for the project, and is expected to see results from that process in the coming weeks. More steps would have to be taken after the estimate is delivered to make the concept a reality, but it could set into a motion an improvement that Boise State and athletic director Curt Apsey believe is needed at Albertsons Stadium. More from the Idaho Statesman:

Apsey said in a recent interview with the Idaho Statesman the school has sought out a local firm to estimate the cost of renovating the lower portion of the east side of Albertsons Stadium.

The intention is to widen the concourses, add and update restrooms and concession areas, plus put in place some form of premium seating to help cover the cost of the project.

“It’s 100 percent possible, and it’s very much needed,” Apsey said. “… The ball is starting to roll, without a doubt.”

Apsey said the school likely will know in the next two weeks how much the project will cost and get a look at plans for what the updates will look like. At that point, Boise State will put together a plan for how to pay for it.

The earliest an east side renovation would be completed is 2020, but Boise State has more immediate plans for Albertsons Stadium that will take effect for the 2019 season. Installation will begin this spring on a new blue turf playing surface, while a new videoboard is slated for the facility’s south end.
