Sun Devil Stadium Main Concourse Now Fully Connected

The ongoing renovation to Sun Devil Stadium has reached a major milestone, as the facility’s main concourse is now fully connected.

Arizona State University has been working for the last several years on a $307-million overhaul to Sun Devil Stadium, and is currently upgrading the venue’s east side. Work on the renovations will extend into 2019, but ASU has accomplished one major task by fully connecting the main concourse ahead of the 2018 college football slate.

With this amenity in place, fans should now have a fuller perspective on the effects of the renovations. More from The Arizona Republic:

Plenty of work remains this month and a final phase of the stadium’s $307-million renovation still lies ahead in 2019. But the project, which began with a preliminary phase in 2014, has reached an important symbolic point with a fully connected main concourse that allows fans, if they choose, to walk fully around a stadium resized from seating for 71,000 to 55,000.

“You don’t have to go over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s to find your seat on the concourse to nowhere,” said Isaac Manning, president/CEO of Trinity Works and manager of the stadium project for ASU. “Everything flows from the main concourse, up or down (to access seats).

“From where we started, it was a classic old building that was really in need of major renovation. I hope people appreciate the quality of what’s gone into it. It’s light and airy. I was up on the northeast plaza, and there’s not a lot of college football stadiums that have the views we have from Sun Devil Stadium. There’s not a bad seat in this building.”

The changes to the Sun Devil Stadium main concourse are a major addition to the facility, but more improvements will be showcased in 2019. By the start of the 2019 season, ASU should complete new club space and office space on the venue’s east side. Sun Devil Stadium originally opened in 1958.
