Mizzou Could Get Boost From Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium Renovation

Once ongoing construction is complete, the Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium renovation could provide a financial boost to the University of Missouri

Construction is underway on the renovation project, which is focused on Memorial Stadium’s south end. When it is complete in 2019, the new south end structure will offer a mix of seating options, event decks, locker rooms, a videoboard, and more.

For the short term, Mizzou will have to deal with some inconveniences–including reduced parking and temporary dressing rooms–that come with construction taking place during the 2018 football season. However, university officials anticipate that the project will result in a major revenue boost for the program by providing new fan amenities, while the new player facilities will help in recruiting efforts. More from the Columbia Daily Tribune:

By 2019, when the new structure is completed, the Tigers will have new, sparkling locker rooms and coaches offices; multi-purpose event decks in the stadium’s southeast and southwest corners; a brand-new rooftop video board; capacity for 4,000 fans in general seats, club seats and suites; and a “Bunker Club” inspired by AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Missouri officials expect the new structure to bring in $6 million from all revenue sources per season. That’s four times more than the previous south end zone configuration delivered annually.

“It will require a little bit of patience this year from our fans,” said Tim Hickman, the chief financial officer for Missouri athletics. “Unfortunately, sometimes progress takes some inconvenience.”

You won’t hear complaints from anybody within the athletic department. The soon-to-be cash cow also will be a recruiting tool for players (and coaches) and sends a message that the department isn’t resting on its big new Southeastern Conference checks. This is Memorial Stadium’s second major renovation since Missouri joined the SEC six years ago.

The new south end zone area will replace a structure that was originally built in 1978. That structure was demolished earlier this year, allowing Mizzou to begin construction on the new addition.
