Nothing Interrupts Notre Dame Stadium Renovations–Not Even Spring Game

Notre Dame Stadium

Build it, and they will come–even in the midst of a construction mess. Notre Dame announced earlier this month that 25,000 tickets will be available for the annual Blue-Gold spring football game on April 22, even as renovations to Notre Dame Stadium continue.

The renovations to the stadium are part of an overall $400-million project that is due to be completed in August, ahead of Notre Dame’s season opener on Sept. 2.

Known as the Campus Crossroads project, the renovation includes several upgrades to the iconic stadium. The most notable improvements include new premium seating and the first-ever videoboard in the stadium’s history.

The roughly 3,000 new premium seats will extend from the top floors of new academic buildings that are being constructed as part of the overall renovation plan. These Club and Loge sections will be a first for the stadium, which previously offered uniform seating prices.

The stadium will also feature wider seats, 18 inches up from 16, which will cause one seat to be lost per row, reducing the overall seating capacity from 80,795 to roughly 78,000. Benches will also be replaced by individual vinyl seats.

Stadium concourses and bathrooms are also being upgraded and 150 monitors will be added throughout the stadium.

The new videoboard, which will sit atop the south end of the stadium will be 96-by-54 feet. The stadium will also add ribbon boards along the face of the new premium seating areas.

Still, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbick would like to see an upgrade to other football facilities, specifically an upgraded weight room.

“It does [need to be updated],” Swarbrick told the Indianapolis Star last month. “You know, as the science of it changes. We won’t have some of the amenities others have when we get around to doing that. But we want better sports science. Those technologies have to be built into the weight room and training room. We retrofitted a cold plunge into the existing locker room. We’d like to design those things into this space as it works. So again, I don’t know when it’ll happen.”

The men’s and women’s basketball teams will be getting new practice facilities as part of the renovation project.
