Renovations are slated for Sanford Stadium, as the University of Georgia‘s athletic association board of directors has signed off on the $63 million project.

The forthcoming changes to Sanford Stadium will be focused on the west end zone, where several modern amenities will be added to overhaul the fan and player experiences. Once complete, the new west end will house both locker room space for the Georgia Bulldogs as well as a recruiting lounge. The Bulldogs will be relocating their locker rooms from the east end.

For the fans, there will be several major changes relating to access, concessions, and technology. One of the main components of the project is a new videoboard, which is currently estimated to measure at 100’ x 52’. Leading fans into Sanford Stadium will be a overhauled entry plaza, while the facility will have upgraded restrooms and concession stands.

Officials are hoping to begin construction this spring, which could allow the project to be finished by the start of the 2018 season. More from The Savannah Morning News:

The details revealed on Tuesday included that it will begin in April and take 17 months to complete. Construction will be going on during the 2017 season with a crane up during the fall, but won’t affect site lines. The project will be is expected to be completed for the 2018 season.

The athletic board approved a $10 million request that will come from athletic reserves. The other $53 million will come through fundraising over two or three years. The board approved using a line of credit during fiscal year 2018 to help pay for the project.

“This has been under discussion for a considerable amount of time,” UGA president Jere Morehead reminded the board at a quarterly meeting held in the Taylor Room at the basketball practice facility.

According to an announcement from the university, the project will now be considered by the board of regents. The board is slated to weigh in on the proposal on March 15.
