Neyland Stadium Renovations Up for Vote

Though it is still early in the process, a vote on Friday will be crucial to proposed renovations to the University of Tennessee‘s Neyland Stadium

The University of Tennessee is proposing $106 million in upgrades to Neyland Stadium, with the improvements focusing on a blend of player and fan amenities. While addressing changes to the field, the renovations would also improve the concourse, concession, and seating options on the stadium’s south end, which would be moved back to widen the area between the playing field and the stands.

Other changes are expected to be in the works, but the planning process still includes several votes. The first major decision is set to be made by the board of trustees on Friday, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel:

If the board approves the project, the renovation next would go before the Tennessee Higher Education Commission and eventually would require legislative approval.

Thursday’s trustee meeting was the first since a new state law went into effect to create two new trustee committees, five new subcommittees and a public forum requirement. Many of the subcommittees did not take up new business.

Renovations to Neyland Stadium would be completed through a pair of funding sources that include donations and athletic department revenue. If the renovations are given their proper layers of approval, Neyland Stadium could be overhauled by the beginning of the 2019 college football season.
