University of Arkansas Stadium Expansion Approved

Razorback Stadium expansion

Expansion is on the horizon for Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, as the University of Arkansas board of trustees has granted final approval for the project.

The 10-member board met on Thursday to discuss and vote on a bond issue of up to $120 million for the expansion. Ultimately the final vote went in favor of the Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium renovation by an 8-2 margin, with former U.S. Senator David Pryor and fellow board member Cliff Gibson being the lone dissenting votes.

As noted here yesterday, the total cost of the project will be $160 million, with the remaining $40 million to be covered through fundraising. Along with enclosing the stadium’s north end, the renovation will address premium seating upgrades, bring a new videoboard to the facility, and cover improvements to the Broyles Athletic Center and the Bogle Academic Center.

Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium’s capacity will increase by more than 4,000 seats as a result of the upgrade, bringing the facility’s total capacity to between 76,000 and 77,000 fans. The upgrades are scheduled to be compelted before the 2018 season, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
